Kevin Jones is a senior adviser to IWNC and a consultant, specialising in strategy- and organisation-related issues in Asia. He has also served as a non-executive director for companies listed on the LSE, AIM, and NASDAQ, as well as for several private companies.
In his early career he moved rapidly from working as a computer consultant with Dunlop to an international marketing career with PA Management Consultants. After attaining an MBA with the top distinction from INSEAD he joined McKinsey, working in various European Countries and the USA focussing mainly on global strategy and organisation. In this time he was a founder member of McKinsey’s International Management practice group, working in the late 1970s and early 1980s on the emerging concepts of the global enterprise. Kevin then moved to Japan as a partner of McKinsey & Co. where his initial work was entirely with Japanese companies; latterly he established and built McKinsey's FAC (Foreign Affiliated Company) practice. In this role he worked across a wide spectrum of industries but primarily on three themes; integrating Japan into the global organisation; and regional strategies and organisation structures. In 1992, he became a partner of Booz-Allen & Hamilton (now Booz & Company), based in Hong Kong, responsible for developing the practice in China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and worked with leading Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Western corporations on global and regional strategy, particularly alliances, and organisation. Achievements Mr. Jones has published extensively on Japan and China and has been a frequent speaker on North Asian issues. His articles on Japan include '"The FAC dilemma: Surviving Middle Age in Japan", "Managing the Heretical Company", "Allying for Advantage" and "Competing to Learn" in the McKinsey Quarterly. He has also published articles on business in China in Nikkei Business and in Business China. He was the contributing author on Japanese alliances to the book "Collaborating to Compete", and to “Doing Business in Japan”, published by Key Porter and Prentice Hall respectively. Mr. Jones has an MBA with the top distinction from INSEAD and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. (First Class) in pure mathematics. British by birth, he has lived for over thirty-five years outside the U.K. and speaks English, French, German, and Italian. He also speaks and reads Japanese and, to a lesser extent, Mandarin. |
